Addressed to Mr Juan Domínguez of SPAIN

Date 11 March 1976

Sir,

Allow me to introduce myself to you and to your noble wife. I am NOIUEYOO 62 Son of N. 59 and we have been in your Country since 3 July 1975. My reason for writing this letter I will tell you at once: A broadcast analysis is being programmed at the Television Centre of your country about one of our craft landed on this soil, as you well know, in the year 1967. Your worthy wife has been in the studios together with your brothers Rafael Farriols Calvo, José Jordán Peña and Jorge Barrenechea Aberasturi, as well as yourself.

Thanks to your brother Farriols, whom we follow on his travels, this news came within our monitoring.

We truly regret not having been able to learn earlier of this plan to broadcast such a programme in which we are referred to. And I will tell you about this regret.

It constitutes for us at this moment a unique opportunity to carry out a survey of the degree of penetration of the news among the Spanish population, precisely at a time when we thought we had already been forgotten. Had we known earlier, we would have provided you with the wording of a few words which, added to the context, with the presumed authorisation of the scriptwriter, would have facilitated our work of analysis.

A useless regret, obviously, for neither could you inform us beforehand about the planned programme, nor has it been possible for us to find out about it beforehand. We now know the text and the recorded image. We hope that, as it will be fed into the transmitting equipment, it may be useful to us in our study.

Understand that it is not possible for us to reproduce such a situation at will. No television station of other nations is under any kind of control by us, and for us any macrosocial examination of the humans of Earth acquires great value if it is in some way linked to my brothers.

We have learned a great deal in our last years of stay among you. Our fear that the news of our stay on Earth might seriously disturb the Social Network has vanished.

Today we know that the precautions taken by my brothers gave the expected result. It is enough for us to avoid our real direct presence, not to provide you with excessively convincing proofs and to introduce some carefully dosed elements of confusion, so that any excessively scrupulous analyst of Earth cannot draw excessively embarrassing conclusions about our existence.

The scepticism of the masses woven into the Social Network constitutes an evident protection.

Another problem is a certain interest which certain official circles direct towards us, who think, quite logically, that we mask ourselves with the identity of extraterrestrials in order to hide other kinds of aims. Against them, we have wished to preserve you from any risk, although we know that those bodies received reliable reports that, as is strictly true, you do not know our whereabouts and are a passive factor in the unilateral sending of documentation. Despite everything, we still think it prudent to limit our mailings very restrictively.

Our advice is that you continue to maintain this passivity.

If anyone asks you for information about us, you may provide it (except that classified as confidential), but it would be prudent for the initiative of circulation not to come from those who, like you, received some reports of ours. Each of you will know in due course how to define his position regarding the degree of credibility he grants us, but we judge that, for inescapable ethical reasons, nobody, in conversation with brothers unconnected with the problem or in contact with the public media, should give the names of persons involved in such contacts without their express permission.

We demand this condition very strictly, with the rigid sanction of omitting for ever our contact with the human who infringes it. For the rest, we cannot demand at this moment any other kind of silence, or that you express what you do not feel regarding the credit you grant us. We recommend that any document you provide to other brothers who request it should be free of the heading expressing the first name and surnames of the recipient, unless that brother expressly authorises its circulation.

Our recommendation, in short, is that you always be impartial in your judgements. To express excessive enthusiasm for our hypothetical existence is irrational. You will show much more intelligence by giving the opinion that such documents come from an unknown source “which claims to come from UMMO”, then expressing the value judgement their CONTENT deserves in your view. For about their origin you can know little except by means of rash speculations.

I ask you, Mr Domínguez, after carefully deleting your surname as a precaution, to provide a copy of this document to the brothers YOU TRUST.

Exhort them, I beg you repeatedly, to understand the prudence of these measures, but let your brothers bear in mind that, after these years, measures of reserve which yesterday may have been prudent and necessary as regards the circulation of documents have ceased to be dangerous. Information concerning our own civilization we consider free of censorship.

This is not so with regard to certain documents that affect your own Social Network. Those brothers who received them must show themselves rigorously cautious and refuse to comment on them or circulate them among strangers.

We express to you and your intelligent wife our noblest expression of spiritual communion.
